Telluride

Much More Than Snowcapped Mountains

Surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks, Telluride is a Colorado gem with a classic, small-town feel and a long romantic history. Nestled in the San Juan Mountains, it seems a world away and is perfect for couples wanting an intimate wedding or a private escape. It is these mountains’ rugged peaks that give Telluride its signature backdrop and the city’s name is rumored to have originated from a farewell given to fortune seekers headed in search of gold, “To-hell-u-ride!” It’s often thought of only as a winter ski destination, but spring and summer are equally breathtaking.

Stay

Capella Telluride

Founded by the original president of Ritz-Carlton, convenience is key at Capella Telluride with no check-in/check-out times and a personal assistant on-hand for every guest. Capella consists of 95 rooms and was named one of the hottest new hotels in the world by Condé Nast Traveler. Capella offers unparalleled personalized services, like custom-stocked mini-fridges, which are perfect for honeymooners. *Note: Capella Telluride is now under new ownership and titled the Hotel Madeline.

New Sheridan Hotel

New Sheridan Hotel has been the town’s social center since 1895 and is located right off Telluride’s historic Main Street. As a Member of the National Trust for Historic Hotels of America, New Sheridan offers throwback comfort with all the modern conveniences.

Eat

Allred’s

Considered Telluride’s flagship restaurant and perched at 10, 551 feet, Allred’s offers the best views of any restaurant in town. The elk short loin is flown in from New Zealand in order to guarantee the finest quality cut. For an unforgettable libation try the Flatliner Martini, a frosty mix of espresso, Kaluha, Baileys and vanilla vodka.

New Sheridan Chop House

The Chop House is known for its dry-aged USDA prime steaks, fresh seafood and free-range organic fowl. The all-local ingredients are expertly complimented by Telluride’s only nitrogen wine bar.

Play

Festival Capital of Colorado

In Telluride, there is a different festival nearly every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Annual events include film festivals, a hot air balloon rally, a bevy of music festivals and tributes to wine and brews.

A Nature-lover’s Oasis

This bohemian community is an outdoorsman’s dream. Fly fish with a view of Bridal Veil Falls or get your heart racing with river rafting, biking or hiking (they have over 120 trails). Telluride is sure to please both the Mr. and Mrs. thanks to its breathtaking vistas and countless outdoor activities.

Historic Walking Tour

History nerds rejoice because Telluride has a rich past steeped in esteem and even espionage. Ashley Boling, a local tour guide, comes highly recommended by the locals and will show off such sites as the Opera House built in 1914 and the location of Butch Cassidy’s first bank robbery.
